UV-C Technology Explained
Ultraviolet light is a form of electromagnetic energy produced naturally by the sun. The entire UV spectrum can kill many microorganism species, preventing them from replicating. UV-C energy is the most effective light spectrum for eradicating microorganisms. UV-C exposure inactivates microbial organisms such as bacteria and viruses by altering the structure and molecular bonds of their DNA, destroying their ability to reproduce, and thereby rendering them harmless.
The entire UV spectrum can kill or inactivate many microorganism species, but UV-C energy at 253.7 nanometres provides the most germicidal effect. UV-C exposure inactivates microbial organisms such as bacteria and viruses by altering the molecular bonds of their DNA. By destroying the organism’s ability to reproduce, it becomes harmless as it cannot colonize. After UV-C exposure, the organism dies off leaving no offspring and then diminishes rapidly.
Controlling Airborne Virus & Bacteria
There is no denying that HVAC systems have the potential to spread airborne infectious diseases in any building type, threatening the health of patrons and exposing facility owners to liability risks. UV-C is the only known way to effectively and continually kill airborne viruses and has been used in the medical field for many years. Under our VentCare banner, Salix Mechanical Ltd has been working alongside industry experts to make this technology available for building users in the applications of Air Conditioning and Ventilation systems.
We are pleased to be able to offer UV-C products for use within:
- Wall Mounted Split AC Units
- Floor Mounted Split AC Units
- Ceiling Mounted Cassette AC Units
- Ducted AC Units
- MVHR Ventilation Units
- Air Handling Units
Other benefits of UV-C Air Sterilisation
Biological fouling (the build-up of mould) is a common problem in air handling units. The cool, moist surface within the unit is an ideal breeding ground for mould. A biofilm of only 0.05mm can reduce efficiency by 37%. UV-C treatment is proven to sterilize cooling coils continuously and safely, extending the lifetime of the equipment and improving its efficiency.
Speak to Salix Mechanical Ltd to discuss incorporating UV-C into your HVAC equipment, giving you protection against airborne disease and restoring confidence in you and your staff.
