The Site
Blakelands Hospital located in Milton Keynes opened in 2006 and is a purpose-built day case unit that provides convenient, effective and high-quality treatment for patients who are medically insured, self-paying and funded by the NHS. Equipped with an onsite Imaging Department offering X-Ray, Ultrasound and MRI and a dedicated Physiotherapy Unit complete with a rehabilitation gym, the Treatment Centre is perfectly designed for orthopaedic care.
The Scope
Salix were approached in relation to a problematic and noisy air handling unit which served one of the critical medical theatre environments. Due to the nature of the space, works had to be planned carefully, so as not to interfere with any planned operations, as well as allowing enough time post-works for a thorough deep clean of the area.
The Solution
Following the initial site survey, it was decided that the fan motor needed replacing, but due to the construction of the air handling unit, this involved dismantling a large section of the unit in order to gain access. Works were all completed successfully over a weekend to avoid disruption to the surgery schedule and allow time for testing and commissioning ahead of the next week's schedule of operations. After replacing the air handling unit motor and blade, the unit works well and to the required standard.
